Not sure what to study

If you’re not sure what you want to do, that’s ok:
  • Take a look through our what you can study section to get some great ideas on careers you might like, or check out our career pathways to help get you on the right track.
  • Or a short course to get you job-ready, like our popular Barista or Responsible Service of Alcohol short courses?

Don’t forget, if you have taken any TAFE studies while still at school, you can get credit – known as recognition - for the subjects you have already completed.

School leavers under 17

Have you decided to leave school at the end of Year 10 but are under 17?

Under NSW law you can choose to leave school early only if you then continue in either full-time education, training, paid employment, or a combination of these until you are 17 years of age.

At TAFE SWSi, your options include:

enrolling in a full-time vocational qualification
doing a combination of education, training and employment

Under exceptional circumstances, TAFE NSW will offer certificate II vocational courses for a small number of young people who are under 17 years of age and have not completed Year 10.

You will need special permission from your parent/caregiver, school and from TAFE. The decision will be based on your ability and skills to study in an adult learning environment and your interest in specific vocational qualifications.
