Why do Stonemasonry at TAFE SWSi?
This course will allow you to be on the cutting edge of developments in stonemasonry as well as covering all of the traditional core craft skills that are the basis of a successful career. Whether you are an existing worker, an apprentice or trainee, or totally new to the field, our Stonemasonry Centre will provide you with both practical and theoretical experience taught by some of the best stonemasons in the country.
What to expect
Learn how to cut, dress and install stone using both traditional and modern techniques. You will also experience in-depth training that includes traditional hand tool skills, such as rock face, chiselled finish and letter-cutting as well as pneumatic air tool skills in the dimensional shaping of stone.
The course is offered via block release or weekly attendance and is held at Miller College seven times a year. It covers both practical skills and theory.
In a safe and supervised environment you will learn to master brick saws, block saws, manta bridge saws, sandblasting techniques and edge polishers.
Who will teach you
At our Miller College Stonemasonry Centre you will be learning from the best in the business, with all of our staff highly trained in both stonemasonry and adult education. Our teachers are experts, having spent at least 10 years working in the industry and running their own contracting companies, they bring a wealth of experience to the task of getting you ready for a career as a stonemason.
When you become a graduate of the Stonemasonry Centre at Miller College, you will become part of a highly respected tradition. Past students have won a variety of awards including CFMEU First in State Excellence Award and the Long Service Leave Excellence in Training award, both in 2013.
