Launch your career in the Allied Timber Trades at our Lidcombe-based centre where teachers with many years of trade experience will prepare you for success in this booming industry. Our Allied Timber Trades department has the largest facility nationwide and offers students the opportunity to gain industry relevant skills across all timber trades areas in modern, well-equipped workshops and learning facilities.

We strive to produce capable tradespeople who can think for themselves. Wherever possible, as a student you would be involved in actual or simulated full-sized project work to enhance your practical experience and develop problem solving and teamwork skills. We place a particular emphasis on Work Health and Safety (WHS), with a focus on personal responsibility for workplace safety. Your training would include personalised instruction and assessment on the safe use, correct set-up and maintenance of current trade machinery, equipment and power tools.

Our training options include:

  • On-the-job assessment

  • Structured off-the-job training that is both classroom and workshop based

  • Customised training programs that combine structured off-the-job training and on-the-job assessment

  • Recognition of skills already developed
     

Courses offered

allied timber trade student using machinery to cut woodThe centre offers you courses from Certificate II to Certificate IV across a range of timber trades such as Cabinetmaking for Furniture and Cabinetmaking for Kitchens and Bathrooms, Shopfitting, Joinery, Stairs, Flooring Technology, Furniture Finishing, Upholstery, Woodmachining, Furniture Design and Technology, Construction Pathways, Furniture Making and more.
We also offer short courses in:

  • Basic Woodmachining

  • Kitchen Bathroom and Laundry Renovation – Skills Express

  • Shopfitting – Skills Express

  • Woodworking Tools (beginners)

Our students have been recognised with numerous awards including State Training Awards for Cabinetmaking, the Ern Macdonald Fellowship and entry into the International Worldskills Competition in 2013 and the 2014 National Competition for Cabinetmaking and Joinery.
