TAFE SWSi wins prestigious Logistic & Warehousing Award

TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute (TAFE SWSi) has been judged to be the most innovative and excellent training organisation in its development of the local logistics and warehousing workforce. The National Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) presented TAFE SWSi with the Innovation and Excellence in Workforce Development (Logistics and Warehousing) Award for its “innovative partnerships with the industry together with its quality teaching” in 2015. TAFE SWSi wins Excellence in Workforce Development Award

TAFE SWSi’s employee work skills program won the Excellence in Workforce Development Award at the 2014 NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards.

The program, developed together with the Australian Foundation for Disability (AFFORD), was designed to increase the workplace skills of employees with a disability at the AFFORD Minchinbury factory site. The first of its kind delivered in NSW, the program provided participants with communications skills, workplace information and work health and safety skills. Participants completed the program during work hours and received full wages and mentoring from AFFORD employees.
 

Meat and Allied Trades Teacher wins National Industry Award

TAFE SWSi Meat & Allied Trades Teacher Martin Paynter won the 2014 National Meat Industry Trainer of the Year. The award, recognising innovation and excellence in providing vocational education and training to meat industry students, was presented at the National Meat Industry Training Advisory Council (MINTRAC) Conference.

In 2014 our students achieved outstanding success in a broad range of fields, locally and nationally.


Self-confessed “high achiever” Brodie Oakes won the Apprentice of the Year Award at the 2015 NSW Training Awards on Wednesday, 9 September 2015. Brodie completed his apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering while also completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade at TAFE SWSi Miller College and Mechanical Engineering and Certificate IV Engineering - Hydraulics and Pneumatics at Lidcombe College. 

Seven TAFE SWSi students were named among Australia’s best tradies, after winning gold and silver medals at the WorldSkills Australia 2014 National Competition in Perth.

Automotive Mechanical Technology student Shane Mitchell from TAFE SWSI’s Wetherill Park College was announced Apprentice of the Year Award at the Annual My Gateway Apprentice and Trainee Awards night in Sydney on 30 October.

TAFE SWSi Bankstown College Advanced Diploma of Travel & Tourism student Maraia Talei, received the 2015 Minister’s Student Achiever Award for Tourism and Hospitality. Maraia was one of 13 students honored by the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres at a special ceremony held at Parliament House in Sydney in September 2015.

TAFE SWSi student Peter Jensen was recently honoured at the TAFE NSW Gili Awards, which acknowledge the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal students. Peter received an Achievement Award after recently completing his Cert III in Fitness at TAFE SWSi. Following his studies, Peter went on to train with Fire & Rescue NSW where he mentored other students and received the Commissioner's Award for outstanding Achievement.

Immanuel Njoroge was named the winner of the 2014 NSW International VET Student of the Year in a glittering ceremony at the Sydney Opera House. Immanuel studied a Diploma of Laboratory Technology at TAFE SWSi's Granville College.

Worldskills

WorldSkills is a skills competition, jobs and careers event designed to give young people from 17 to 22 years old an opportunity to demonstrate their excellence in skilled professions at a regional, national and international level.

Every two years winners of national competitions are given the chance to go head-to-head with the world’s best in their skills area.

Competitions are run in 45 skill categories including carpentry, hairdressing, automotive mechanics and many more.

TAFE SWSi has a strong record at WorldSkills, with many of our students excelling at regional, national and international competitions.
